About the awards

Entries for the Government Counter Fraud Awards are open to UK public sector employees working in counter fraud. This includes any individual or team working in local government or in a central government agency or department.

Charities and private sector organisations can also be nominated but only for the ‘Outstanding Collaboration’ and ‘Outstanding International Collaboration’ awards and in conjunction with a public sector organisation.

Entrants can nominate themselves, or be nominated by someone else for any of the Awards.

The Awards are an excellent opportunity to celebrate your success and draw attention to the work you and/or your team do.

The prestige and exposure gained as a shortlisted nominee or winner will:

• boost your profile and that of your organisation;
• position you as a top performer in this specialist field;
• improve internal morale;
• showcase your achievements to a wide audience; and
• inspire others in the counter fraud arena.

We will be using all relevant communication channels to announce the finalists and winners in each category, promoting your achievements right across the public sector counter fraud arena. This includes Public Finance magazine which has a reach of over 19,000 readers.

Not only will you benefit from the publicity generated by the Awards themselves but we’ll give you the tools to help you promote your involvement through your own channels.

When the Awards take place, winners will receive an official Government Counter Fraud Awards trophy plus a winner’s logo that can be used across your online and offline media to promote your success.

The judges will be looking for cases, initiatives and projects which are innovative, thought-provoking and that have delivered measurable results. They will be particularly interested in approaches and ways of working that can be replicated and used by other organisations to further strengthen overall counter fraud and anti-corruption defences in the public sector.

Each entry will be judged on the information provided in the entry form and supplementary documentation.

The Government Counter Fraud Awards are free to enter.

• Nominees must be based in the UK. International organisations can be nominated for the ‘Outstanding International Collaboration’ award but only in conjunction with UK-based public sector organisation(s).
• Entries are for work, cases, initiatives or projects conducted or concluded between 1 July 2017 and 30 November 2018 and have not featured in previous Government Counter Fraud Awards (the Awards) entries.
• Entries and any supporting documentation will only be accepted if all the requested information is provided and submitted using the online process set out on the Enter now page.
• Each entry must not exceed a total word count of 3,500 words. This includes the entry form and any supporting documentation.
• Entries for more than one category will be accepted but the same work, case, initiative or project cannot be used for multiple entries. Please use separate entry forms for each nomination.
• Entries can be made directly by nominees or on behalf of nominees.
• Those submitting an entry confirm that the details given in the entry are accurate to the best of their knowledge.
• CIPFA, the NCA, Cabinet Office and City of London Police do not accept any responsibility for late or lost entries due to the Internet or postal service. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.
• No responsibility is accepted for ineligible entries or entries made fraudulently.
• Information contained within shortlisted and winning entries may be used at the Awards ceremony and included in any supporting materials for the Awards, such as in Public Finance magazine and on the Awards website.
• Entries can be withdrawn for any reason by contacting Richard Slifer at: richard.slifer@cipfa.org
• Entries and supporting documentation will not be returned.
• The judges reserve the right to re-categorise an entry if they think an alternative category would be more suitable.
• The Awards are not open to employees of CIPFA, the NCA, Cabinet Office and City of London Police or any person directly or indirectly involved in the running of the Awards.
• Sponsors are not permitted to enter the category which they are sponsoring.
• The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
• You will be deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions and to agree to be bound by them when entering the Awards.
